BEHIND THE CAMERA

It began with
a love of photographs.

My interest in photography began in high school, making pictures and printing in the darkroom. I hadn’t imagined becoming a wedding photographer. But after photographing my first wedding in January 1989, I found myself drawn to the people, the emotion, and the challenge of telling a story as it happened. In January 1994, I opened my own business.

One of my earliest celebrity commissions was the wedding of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. His fiancée walked into the studio where I worked and hired me. As a fan of the band, it was a memorable beginning.

Other opportunities grew through relationships. Early in my business, I sent a Beverly Hills florist photographs of his work. He appreciated the care I had taken, and later recommended me for a wedding. After seeing my portfolio books, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston selected me to photograph their wedding in Malibu in 2000.

In 2006, another referral—and another book—led to photographing Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s wedding in Italy. My wedding work has also included Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, Shania Twain, Trent Reznor, and Jason Aldean.

Those names are part of my history. What has stayed with me is the responsibility of being invited into someone’s life on a day that matters, and helping them feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

“My vision gets me invited.
My integrity gets me invited back.”

A FAMILIAR PRESENCE

At ease.
As yourselves.

Photographing people whose lives are often in the public eye has reinforced something simple: everyone deserves the space to be themselves. I bring preparation, a calm presence, and the same personal attention to every family I photograph.

I’m easygoing, I listen, and I take time to understand how you like things to be. Before we travel, we talk about your plans, your comfort, and when you would prefer space. Once I’m there, I settle into the rhythm of your days.

I’m comfortable working alongside your family and the people who support you, and happy to lend a hand when it’s helpful. I know when to step forward and when to step away. What you share with me stays private.

FROM ONE DAY TO MANY YEARS

The next chapter
is often a relationship.

Some wedding commissions grow into lasting relationships. For one family, photographing their wedding was the beginning of sixteen years of vacations, celebrations, and watching their children grow. Today, I continue to serve as their personal family photographer.

That continuity is at the heart of my work as a private photographer. A single journey can be a complete story in itself—or the beginning of many chapters together.

Books helped introduce my work at the beginning of my career. They remain central to it today. I personally photograph your experience, select the images, and design the book that brings it all together.

The Wedding I Almost Missed

An original photograph. A true story. An invitation to see a little differently. There’s a garden hose in this photograph that has bugged me for almost twenty-five years. Look at the bottom left of the image. See it? The hose follows the edge of the path perfectly until it gets close to the bottom of the frame, where it bows out. I wish it didn’t do that. I know. Of all the things in this photograph, that’s what I notice. A beautiful bride. A Vera Wang dress. A single rose. An English estate. A pathway that pulls your eye through the frame toward a garden house that looks like something out of Downton Abbey . And I’m looking at the hose.…

Romancing the Storm

An original photograph. A true story. An invitation to see a little differently. The photograph I traveled to Tornado Alley to make is not this photograph. We went looking for a tornado. Mother Nature gave us lightning instead. It was May 2009 when a photographer friend and we decided it would be a good idea to take a bride and groom into Tornado Alley during tornado season and photograph them in front of a tornado. To be honest, I was very reluctant. Driving toward a tornado went against most of my natural instincts. Being tornado-adjacent isn’t my idea of blowing off some steam. Tornadoes are unpredictable. Dangerous. And completely…

Don’t Let Grandma Find Out

An original photograph. A true story. An invitation to see a little differently. I don’t remember who. I don’t remember exactly what was said. Honestly, I don’t even remember who this woman was. I believe she may have been the bride’s grandmother. But I remember this photograph. I’ve always loved it. Her mouth is open mid-sentence. Her eyes are locked on someone just outside the frame. And that long, bony finger is raised and shaking in a way that tells you whoever was on the receiving end was getting an earful. I’ve always thought of her as my grandma. I mean I captured her… so I guess I get to claim her. Look a little longer and the…
