ONE FAMILIAR PRESENCE

Your personal family photographer.
Through the years.

There is something different about being photographed by someone everyone already knows. Over time, comfort grows—and the photographs become part of a much larger story.

It begins
with one invitation.

I photographed one family’s wedding. Sixteen years of vacations, celebrations, and watching their children grow followed. I am still their family and personal photographer today.

That relationship developed naturally. It began with the photographs, and continued through trust, familiarity, and the ease of having someone around who understands the family’s rhythm.

Knowing when to join in.
Knowing when to step away.

I am easygoing, listen well, and work comfortably alongside the people who help make a family’s life run smoothly. Before we begin, we talk about preferences and boundaries. Some moments are for photographs; others are simply yours.

I keep family life private. Photographs are not published without express permission, and confidentiality arrangements can be discussed as part of the commission.

Trips, celebrations,
and life in between.

For one longtime family, I return throughout the year for birthday parties, holiday celebrations, family portraits, and the children’s activities. I have photographed their sports, dance, and plays, as well as the days they spend together away from home.

Sometimes it is a week at the family cabin, with the children playing in the lake. Sometimes it is a portrait weekend for holiday cards. Being there for both gives the photographs continuity: the occasions everyone plans for, alongside the smaller moments they want to remember.

The relationship can extend to practical needs, too, such as professional headshots. We discuss what your family would like photographed and agree on the scope of each visit.

You do not have to decide on a long-term relationship at the outset. A vacation or celebration gives everyone the chance to get comfortable and see how we work together.

Begin with a family journey

They know me.
And that changes things.

I have known the children in one family since they were babies. They know who I am and are comfortable having me around. That familiarity comes from time spent together, listening, and being a dependable presence.

As they have grown older, they have started asking me to make particular photographs. One of them recently told me how much he liked the pictures I had taken at his sporting event. Hearing that from him meant a great deal to me.

That is part of what makes returning so rewarding. The children develop their own relationship with the photographs, and I get to keep documenting the people they are becoming.

Some dates are traditions.
Others find their way onto the calendar.

With my longtime family, several occasions are planned ahead each year. Other visits come together as something new arises. It is a combination of familiar traditions and a conversation when I am needed.

I have traveled on as little as a day’s notice when something important came up and my schedule allowed. That flexibility depends on availability; I honor existing commitments and confirm each visit with the family or their assistant.

Your arrangement can begin with one journey or celebration and grow from there. There is no prescribed number of visits. We work out what suits your family.

A FEW PRACTICAL DETAILS

Before we begin.

Do we need to commit to an ongoing arrangement at the start?

No. We can begin with one vacation or celebration. That gives your family time to become comfortable with me and see whether you would like me to return for future occasions.

What can an ongoing family photography relationship include?

Family vacations, birthday and holiday parties, portraits for holiday cards, children’s sports, dance, plays, and time together at home or away. Professional headshots can also be arranged. We agree on the scope and dates for each commission.

How are visits planned throughout the year?

Recurring celebrations and portrait sessions can be planned in advance. You or your assistant can also contact me when another occasion arises. Short-notice requests are welcome when my schedule allows, with availability confirmed for every visit.

How do you know when we would like privacy?

We talk beforehand about your preferences and how you would like to signal that a moment is private. I listen and take direction, and I am comfortable stepping away. Respect for what happens around me extends beyond the photographs themselves.
